We’ve crafted this guide to help make your Openserve fibre installation as smooth and straightforward as possible. We’ve packed in key details and tips, so be sure to read through, especially if you’re looking for a quick overview at the end!
Router Setup and Configuration:
You’re welcome to use your own router—just configure it to PPPoE with the credentials we provide. For router setup details, please refer to the resources available on our website. If you’ve ordered a router from us, we’ll take care of its configuration and delivery.
Power Requirements:
Two plug points are needed: one for the ONT device (the fibre modem) installed by Openserve and another for your WiFi router.
Installation Process:
The installation is managed by Openserve, not GetWiza. Openserve will reach out to schedule your installation, coordinating via calls and SMS. During installation, please point out any areas where you do not want cables or fibre lines to run. The installation team will need to drill through walls or run cable outside, so it’s crucial to communicate any nearby water pipes, electric cables, or potential hazards.
The standard installation covers 8 meters, with any additional distance at R184 per meter, up to 200 meters. Openserve handles trenching and conduits outside your property, but within your property, you will need to arrange for any trenching, conduits, or lifting and replacing of paving.
For aerial fibre installations, Openserve will run the cable if it’s available in your area. If you have existing conduits, ensure they are intact, with no damage or gaps, and have a drawstring to pull the cable.
Important Notes:
If any issues arise during installation, address them immediately with the installation team, as it’s easiest to resolve them while they’re on-site.
Installation Tips:
Think ahead about where you want your router, making sure it’s close to a plug point. Discuss your cable and box preferences with the installation team—they’re typically in and out in under two hours, so plan special installation requests beforehand.
Connecting to the Internet:
Your line is expected to be live after installation, but in some cases, additional steps may be required. Enter your GetWiza PPPoE username and password in your router, or simply connect the router provided by us if you’ve opted for one—it will come pre-configured.
Quick Recap:
- An adult must be at home during installation to guide and approve the work.
- You should be online the same day or within 1-2 days, although rare cases may take up to 5 days.
- Two 2-prong plug points are necessary.
- Fibre equipment remains the property of Openserve; any damage or loss will incur replacement costs.
- Billing starts once your service is live. Your invoice will be sent via email at the end of your first month, with any partial month billed pro-rata.
Enjoy your new GetWiza fibre experience!
